The decision whether or not to invest in restoring a damaged rug or textile depends on the value of the piece, extent of damage, prospects for satisfactory results, and the sentimental or historical significance. By its nature, hand restoration is slow and expensive, but an experienced professional can work efficiently and nearly invisibly. It is worth finding a restorer who specializes in the type of work needed; even at higher hourly rates you will get better work often at lower over-all cost. Textival offers a full range of restoration services, including re-weaving and re-knotting, conservation and mounting, edge stabilization, and re-dyeing discolored areas.
All work is done by hand.

Our oriental rug repair and restoration service utilizes an extensive stock of wool, cotton, and linen materials we have collected through the years. Some material ravelled from old rug fragments can be used in restoration. When appropriate and with the client’s consent, large-scale projects can be sent to a secure facility in Turkey through an insured broker.

Because Navajo textile restoration requires custom dying, carding, spinning and plying of various yarns and fleeces, it can be more expensive. We have developed our own techniques for joining new material with old, and most Navajo rug restoration done at Textival is virtually invisible.

Textival uses Lanaset acid dyes for superior wash- and light-fastness.

All restoration and repair estimates are done when the
item is checked into our facility. In-home or
over-the-phone estimates may be adjusted when the item
is inspected in our workshop. We are happy to view
high quality photos on-line and give ballpark
estimates, but again, exact estimates will only be
made at our facility.
